If you were to walk out onto the street in Ibiza today and ask the public which DJ do they think is the king of the island, we would bet money that Carl Cox would be in the vast majority of answers. With that in mind, you would think that Coxy would have been a shoe-in to win International DJ of the Year at the DJ Awards on Wednesday. There’s where you’re wrong!
EDM superstar Hardwell ended up beating Cox, Sven Väth and Solomun to the prestigious award and people weren’t happy. When collecting his award the Revealed Recordings frontman was booed by the crowd! Not something anyone was expecting to see at an awards ceremony.
Although Cox lost out on International DJ of the Year, he managed to pick up Techno DJ of the year beating out techno titans Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex and Nina Kraviz. Hï resident Black Coffee scooped the Deep House DJ of the Year award beating out Bedouin, Maya Jane Coles and Patrice Baumel and Bontan claimed Newcomer of the Year.
