Ibiza Rumour Mill: Is Amnesia For Sale?

Here at Ibiza Club News Tower, we always try to keep our ear close to the ground. Usually, it’s because we’ve got drunk and fell over, but occasionally it’s to try and source rumours to fill our weekly Ibiza Rumour Mill section. This week is no different, we’ve had our ear well and truly pressed to the ground and we were so drunk we can’t even remember if we fell over or not, so this is either a really credible rumour or we dreamt it when we passed out.

So, enough of this pondering, let’s cut to the chase. The latest grapevine talk we’re hearing on the island (Facebook) is that Amnesia is officially about to put on the market and sold to the highest bidder.

We’re not into giving up our sources, but in this case we’re sure he won’t mind, some little Spanish old lad who does his shopping in San Antonio’s Mercadona and has a great tan, told us, in Spanish, that the sale of Amnesia is “one hundred and fifty percent nailed on”, with the club’s current owners set to make an official announcement on the sale within the next couple of weeks.

So, is this just a rumour or is it actually likely to happen? Well, looking at the season that’s just finished, we’d be likely to think this could be a real possibility. Last season, two of Amnesia’s longest-serving club nights moved home, with Cream and Cocoon relocating to Hï and Pacha respectively. Now, we might be adding two and two and coming up with seventy-four here, but we reckon that the people behind these brands may have had some sort of insider information and decided to cut loose based on what they knew was coming. Or maybe they didn’t!

If Amnesia was to be put up for sale it probably wouldn’t have too much bearing on the overall clubbing landscape in Ibiza. The club already has some of the biggest brands on the island with elrow, Music On and Do Not Sleep all proud to call it home, but surely it would shake things up a little with new owners almost certainly wanting to put their own stamp on things. I’d nearly buy it myself, just to see if I find any money stashed in the walls.

So, what do you make of this rumour? Do you have any rumours of your own that you’d like to see featured in our Ibiza Rumour Mill section? Get in touch and let us know your thoughts.
