2002 was a big year for the music industry, although news of Michael Jackson dangling his baby over a Berlin balcony and Justin Bieber and Britney Spears breaking up seemed to steal the headlines. The world was deep in the throes of a wizard frenzy with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies dominating the big screen. While in the world of sport, Brazil won their fifth World Cup in Korea and Japan, beating Germany by two goals to nil in the final held in Yokohama.
In the tech world, it was a big year for Apple who launched the second generation of the iPod, with a staggering, at the time, memory of 20Gb. It was also a memorable year for phones as Sanyo released the SCP-5300, the very first phone to come with a built-in camera.
